Nov. 16, 2006 –While in Colima recently, I bought a large art book called Perros en las Tumbas de Colima. With text by several writers, all in Spanish, English, and French, and a selection of photos of the dogs, it’s quite nicely done, published by the University of Colima Press in 1998. I don’t know if it’s still in print, but when I did a google search to try to find out, I did notice that copies turn up on eBay at times.

Here are sections of three photos from it. These were taken by a renowned photographer, Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo.

Two dogs dancing, like this pair, are the symbol of the city of Colima and are seen as statues in various places.
