Living in Mexico and Learning to Speak Spanish: Tales & How-to Tips

The purpose of this blog is to provide information about Mexico -- mostly through my husband's and my day-to-day experiences of living in Mexico, specifically in San Juan Cosala, Jalisco, by Lake Chapala near Ajijic. I write for people who might live or retire in Mexico, for expats or travelers currently in Mexico, and for Mexicans. I write about how to learn to speak Spanish, why it's important, and how to get started. For more, visit my website www.mexico-with-heart.com as well! -- Rosana Hart

Back in the US

This is our third day back in the US, and I'm enjoying how clean things are, but not how expensive they are! I've been out of the country for almost a year so things that seemed normal to me are now kind of surprising, like the large number of obese people, and how utterly this is a car culture. Not to mention all the housing being built everywhere.

In some ways it feels great to be here and in others it doesn't. I'm too tired to write more now, have to leave this motel early tomorrow to get to our Idaho destination in the afternoon. Lots to write about whenever I get a chance.

My husband and I are flying back at the end of June, and I have really mixed emotions. I'll be reading about your trip with interest, E

I'm beginning to think mixed emotions are to be expected when living in two such different cultures!
