Kelly and I have made quite a few short videos about living in Mexico. They are all up on Youtube, and I’ve also got them here on the site. If you hold your mouse over Watch Videos on the top menubar, you will see the list of videos in alphabetical order.

So… what can you watch?

The Ajijic Street Market is a video with a lot in it. I started at the bottom of the long street that becomes the tianguis every Wednesday. By the time I got to the top, where Kelly and our friend visiting friend Dave chat with the people we buy our produce from, you will have seen a lot of arts and crafts, everyday household items, food, and a lot of liveliness. (We don’t buy our produce in Ajijic — Carlos and Blanca come to our town of San Juan Cosala every Tuesday.)

At Home in Mexico is a slideshow celebrating two years in our home… it’s more like a slideshow-on-steroids really, as I had a subscription for a while to an enjoyable site called Animoto, and as you can see, they really work their magic on the photos I uploaded!

Beaches North of Mazatlan is a nice peaceful slideshow of just that, using photos Kelly took on our way down one time. (Kelly has been a professional photographer, by the way.)

Driving to Guadalajara is a video that can give you a taste of the trip in from here. I shot it while Kelly drove… I for one do not drive in Guadalajara! Kelly does fine but I go into overload!

The Historic Tour of San Juan Cosala is the only video that Kelly shot and edited. He used to be a professional videographer (as well as photographer) but now I am the main video person around here.

Las Pozas: Surrealism is another Animoto super-slideshow, where I tried to evoke the surrealism of this amazing place in the Mexican jungle with the way I put together the very short program.

Manzanillo is again an Animoto slideshow, but really there isn’t a word for Animoto does to the images I upload. Do watch at least one of them, to get the sense of it. Anyone can make free ones there for up to 30 seconds.

Mexico with Heart: Animoto again! Capturing some of the images from here where we live and from around Mexico.

San Juan Cosala: a slideshow of our town and activities around it.

Teaching English in Mexico: one of the first actual videos I did, interviewing our friend Peter Rice about this topic.

Lake Chapala Water Improving: Video excerpts from a presentation by Dr. Todd Stong, who does a huge amount for the communities around the lake, as a volunteer. Good news here.

Since these videos are on Youtube, if any of them would be appropriate for a website you have, you are most welcome to get the code and put them on. And if you specially like one, click on it to go to Youtube and comment or rate it!

“Song is the voice of the heart,” says this art on a wall. I liked this one so much I put in on a t-shirt you can see.

April 15, 2006 — I wandered around our yard, taking pictures for this article, and came upon baby bananas just emerging:

We are in the tropics, but being at 5000 feet elevation means it’s rarely extremely hot. It isn’t known to freeze here. No wonder people say the Lake Chapala area, where we are, has one of the best climates in the world. We have bananas in several places on our 1000 square meter (1/4 acre) lot. Here’s our main banana patch:

Many plants that we knew as house plants in Colorado just grow out of doors here. Here you can see spider plants and philodendron. We also have a lot of coleus and geranium.

It’s not easy to get a good shot of the huge lychee tree that provides welcome shade for the front porch. It’s making new fruit now. Hmm, just thought that part of why I love it here so much is that we spend hours every day on the front porch — eating, talking with friends, reading, working on our laptops now that we have a wireless home network — and I have many happy memories of porches from my childhood in Maryland.

We have two kinds of bamboo along the side of our property. I’m no fan of ankle-threatening cobblestones, and heartily concurred when Kelly recently took out a lot of the stones to give this bamboo more room to expand. The little green shoots are quickly taking advantage of the situation.

This entry is for you, Chinle! You were practically in the yard with me as I took the photos!

It surely looks like a little piece of paradise. Having such a beautiful yard, looks to more than make up for the small house. Nothing more comforting than a porch, with a VIEW.

One of my favorite parts is a “street animation” he did last year in Guanajuato. It shows best as a slide show.

As we drove into our town on Fat Tuesday, we passed a little parade. As soon as we got home, Kelly grabbed his camera and ran down to get some photos. He’s just put up a group of those pictures at Flickr. Here’s the link for Fat Tuesday parade by Lake Chapala. Umm, just in case you wonder, those gorgeous gals are guys!
