San Carlos makes a very nice destination for a quick getaway or a longer time. It’s not far from the US border, and being on the beach, it offers a lot of natural beauty and things to do. You can fly or drive.
There are quite a few places to stay, with more being built.
The list of choices includes the San Carlos Plaza, which is a convention center as well as a hotel. The Fiesta Hotel is on the beach. The Best Western Hacienda Tetakawi is right across the street from the beach and near some restaurants we greatly enjoyed. The Paradiso resort and beach club is in a particularly lovely setting, though the whole region has such great scenery that locations are generally very nice.
There are numerous condos in San Carlos as well, and many of them can be rented by the week… but you may want to stay longer! We met some Americans who own a condo there and rent it out most of the high season, using it themselves mainly in the hotter summer off-season.
